Bishkek, 6 July 2016 – During the first National Steering Committee meeting arranged by CADAP 6, a short overview of the current programme implementation in Kyrgyzstan in 2015-2016 and plan of activities for 2016-2017 were presented and discussed with CADAP national partners from the State Drug Control Service, the Ministry of Interior, the State Service for Execution of Sentences and the Republican Narcological Centre attached to the Ministry of Health.

CADAP 6 represents continuity of the EU policy and long term engagement with Central Asian partners to help further strengthen their national policies in drug demand reduction and is funded by the European Union and implemented by a Consortium from the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Poland and Germany led by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

Representatives of the EU Delegation, German Embassy in Kyrgyzstan and CADAP 6 team took part in the meeting to agree on future perspectives and planned joint efforts. The next steps in the programme implementation in Kyrgyzstan were discussed and agreements were reached with state agencies present at the meeting.

“We at the European Union believe that mutual understanding and readiness for cooperation among the agencies represented here today will help us in successful implementation of CADAP in Kyrgyzstan,” – told Johannes Stenbaek Madsen, Head of the Operations Section of the EU Delegation to the Kyrgyz Republic.

CADAP National Steering Committee meetings are convened once a year in Central Asian countries to promote further dialogue and exchange of information among the national authorities involved in the programme together with the EU and implementation partners. In this way, EU and National Governments’ partners of CADAP ensure a better understanding and ownership of the programme.

CADAP 6 with a budget of EUR 4.9 million is implemented in the framework of strategic cooperation between the EU and Central Asia based on the EU-Central Asia Drug Action Plan 2014-2020. During the period of 2001 to 2013 the EU has allocated EUR 20.7 million for implementation of CADAP.
