CADAP discussed work plans with national partners in Central Asia

During the second regional steering committee meeting arranged by the Central Asia Drug Action Programme – Phase 6 (CADAP 6), an overview of the programme and a plan of activities for 2017-2018 were presented and discussed with CADAP national partners from drug control government agencies and ministries of health from Central Asian states.

EU experts presented planned activities in the fields of policy advice, monitoring of the drug situation, prevention, drug treatment and harm reduction services within the current phase of CADAP. In their turn, national partners provided their views and proposals with regard to the programme’s implementation.

Regional steering committee meetings are convened once a year in Central Asian countries to promote further dialogue and exchange of information among the national authorities involved in the programmes together with the EU and implementation partners. In this way, the European Union, CADAP national partners from Central Asia and EU implementing counterparts ensure a better understanding and ownership of the programme, and agree on future perspectives and joint efforts to enhance the programme’s impact both at country and regional level.

CADAP 6 represents continuity of the EU policy and long-term engagement with Central Asian partners to help further strengthen their national strategies in drug and drug demand reduction policies. The programme is funded by the European Union and implemented by the Consortium from the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Poland and Germany, led by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

CADAP 6, with a budget of EUR 4.9 million, is implemented in the framework of strategic cooperation between the EU and Central Asia based on the EU-Central Asia Drug Action Plan 2014-2020. During the period from 2001 to 2013, the EU allocated EUR 20.7 million for the implementation of CADAP.
